What actually is ‘lifestyle’ photography?

I would personally describe lifestyle photography as a more relaxed and natural type of photography session. My aim during any session is to capture the uniqueness of you and your family/partner, to capture bonding and emotion. To take photos as raw and honest as I can. You are unlikely to hear me say ‘everyone smile and look at the camera please’.

I am keen to book a session - what do I do now?

Wonderful! I can’t wait to meet you and get started!! Head over here to get in touch!

Once we have agreed on a date and time, you will receive a contract that needs to be read and accepted, just to clear up both of our expectations. Your invoice will also be attached; payment of the deposit is required at the time of booking via PayPal or direct deposit. That’s it!!! All done.

How do I choose a location?

There are eeeendlesss options to choose from, and the great thing is, we can work out together what the best location is for you and your family. Capturing you in your own home is one of my favourite as it always seems to be the place you feel most comfortable.

What should we wear?

Such an important question! As soon as you've booked your session with me, you are welcome to send through photos of your outfit ideas. I can also email you with all the outfit help you need. I will explain things like what colours and tones to look for and what textures and patterns to avoid. Any question you have I will happily answer! And the most important thing to me is that you feel and look like yourselves, so you can be as comfortable as possible during our session.

What should we expect during our session?

Good question!

If we're outside, we're likely to go for a bit of a walk. I'll be constantly on the lookout for gorgeous light (I LOVE gorgeous light and I'm ALWAYS looking for it).

If it's an in-home session we'll still move a lot. If it's ok with you, I might ask the kids to jump on beds, have tickle fights, get pulled around floors on blankets, snuggle up in beds. I'll get the kids to show me their rooms and their favourite toys. If the weather is nice, we can go outside and play in the backyard.

I want to book an in-home session, how do I prepare my home?

Nope, you don’t need to hire a cleaner and spend a week cleaning your house! You just need to do a quick tidy up, putting toys and clothes away. When I arrive, I will ask for a quick tour of your house, then pick 2 or 3 rooms that we are likely to take photos in. Usually rooms that has nice light!

If it will be in a bedroom I suggest to clearing off your bedside tables, leaving a lamp and a book, but hide phone chargers, baby monitor, tissue boxes etc.

Kids room are kids room. A quick tidy up of toys and clothes is generally all that is needed.

I want to book an outdoor session - what time is ideal?

I prefer to do outdoor session starting an hour or so before sunset - and I finish up at sunset or very soon after, You just can’t replicate that golden light in the middle of the day! And yes, that means in summer my sessions don’t start until 6.30pm and yes I know it’s the kids bed time. If possible, maybe have a quiet afternoon to let the kids have a bit of a rest before the session. Not something that we do every day. So make it special. Kids can get pretty excited to be able to stay up a bit late ;)

What if it rains?

If you’ve booked an outdoor session and the forecast is for rain, then we will reschedule. I happily shoot in any weather other than rain.

What if we are sick?

We can certainly reschedule, no problem. And I’m in the same boat as you, if I’m unwell, I don’t want to be bringing that into your home.

Retouching? Do you do it?

The answer is simple - No, not really. I’m not going to change how you look by e.g. whitening your teeth or make your arms slimmer.

I’d love some other family members to come along also.

No problem! I just ask for an extra $50 per family member outside your immediate family. And keep in mind we’ll still stick to the scheduled time of maximum 90 minutes. It’s too long for the little ones otherwise, so try not to bring too many people along due to time constraints.

What happens after our session?

After your photo shoot your will receive access to your private online gallery of carefully selected images, each treated with the love, attention and creativity that they deserve. Each image will be digitally edited, with all the care taken to deliver you the best result.

Oh, I still have more questions!

I will happily answer any more questions you may have!
